 Geographical location

Yaroslavskaya region is situated in the central part of the East-European plain. It borders on Vladimirskaya region in the south, on Moscovskaya region in the south-west, on Tverskaya region in the west, on Vologodskaya region in the north, on Kostromskaya and Ivanovskaya regions in the east.

Main river is the Volga. In the region there are lakes and water reservoir.

The climate is temperate continental.

 Administrative division

The Yaroslavskaya region was founded on 20 October 1932. Its area is 36.4 thousand sq. km.

The region is divided into 19 municipal districts, 2 towns and 8 worker`s settlements.

The centre of the region is town of Yaroslavl, founded in 1010. Distance to Moscow is 282 km.

Main towns are Yaroslavl (623 thousand people), Rybinsk (247 thousand people).

Population of the region is 1433.6 thousand people. Density of population is 39.4 persons per sq. km.
