Novgorodskaya region is situated in the north-west of the Russian plain. Length from west to east is 385 km, from north to south is 250 km. It borders on Pskovskaya, Tverskaya, Leningradskaya, Vologodskaya regions. Area - 55.3 thousand sq. km. Population - 744 thousand people. Administrative and industrial centre of the region is Novgorod (231.7 thousand people).

The region is rich in mineral springs, cure-mud. But the major wealth of the region is forest. It covers 42% of the region`s territory. There are 83 fields of clay, limestone, sands, mineral dyes, peat. There are 7 fields of fresh subterranean waters.

Centre of the region is the town of Novgorod. It was founded in 859. Distance to Moscow is 606 km.
