Tyumenskaya region was founded in1944. In 1923 Tyumenskaya province was a part of Uralskaya region with the centre in Sverdlovsk. In 1934 it was a part of Ob-Irtyshskaya region with the centre in Omsk.
Administrative centre - Tyumen - was the first Russian town in Siberia. But then the centre became the town of Tobolsk. However, influence of Tyumen as an important transport network, industrial, trade and financial centre of the Western Siberia increased. Now Tobolsk is the second important town in the region.
